Fact Check
Media Manipulation
People’s emotions can easily be manipulated for their own gain, lives can be wrecked without a second thought, economies can be destroyed because the instigators don’t care or don’t take responsibility. If things continue, we will end up destroying ourselves under the control of a few.
Taking ownership
South Africans have gone from one of the friendliest nations to one of the angriest nations. This cannot continue! It is not sustainable! It is time to take back our power, challenge words, think before we speak and speak the truth. On this page we will be doing just that – we will challenge words, we will seek the truth by checking facts and we will be holding people accountable – we need your help in doing this and we need you do hold people accountable.
Accountability is Key
Accountability
is the Key
There was a time, not too long ago, when our actions had consequences. If you stole, you were caught and punished. If you lied, you were caught out on your lie and had to face the consequences. When you made a false statement, few people heard it and the impact remained small. But things have changed. These days it seems that anything goes, if you steal or lie, nothing happens, no one takes responsibility for their actions, never mind their words. Our facts are not checked, we can claim whatever we want, and it is believed (blindly). But words matter! Words can control people, it can incite emotion, it can mobilise people (for good and bad).
Twisting The Facts
As ordinary citizens the media and social media is being used to manipulate our emotions, our thoughts, and our actions for someone’s personal gain. In a sea of disinformation and lack of accountability, things have gotten seriously out of hand. If anyone still doubts the effect that words can have on emotions, on our behaviour and on our society, look at the xenophobic attacks, look at riots, look at the violence, look at the July 2021 unrests that brought our economy to our knees and destroyed many lives. Our words and our messages can incite action and like the butterfly or ripple effect, quickly get out of control.
